Enneagram

Enneagram - Led by Anne Styles

We live in a time when people are not seeing each other. We are often strangers because we don’t see others with the consideration and respect that is deserved. At the same time, we enjoy deeper conversation.

You are invited to a class on the Enneagram, a powerful tool for understanding ourselves and others, not by our behavior, but by our motivations. We will study nine different perspectives, highlighting their strengths and accepting their weaknesses. We will aim to suspend judgment, embrace curiosity, and perhaps learn to see ourselves as others see us.

Past members of an Enneagram group, and those who have studied the Enneagram, are invited to share their stories and teach us your wisdom.

This class will be kept free from religious or political diversions.

Anne Styles is a marriage and family counselor in private practice for 35 years in Saratoga, California, and then in Cloverdale. She has taught and worked with the Enneagram for over ten years.

Literary Luncheon Featuring Author Elaine Rock

Dusty Roads: Meet the Hidden Figure Who Really Ignited the Women’s Movement

Dusty Roads was a trailblazing stewardess and union leader who in the 1950s and 60s challenged the airline industry’s policies by fighting against marriage bans, age limits, unrealistic weight restrictions, unequal pay, and humiliating girdle checks. She refused to back down and eventually won. As one of the first female union lobbyists to Congress, she championed workplace equality and later made history by filing the first-ever discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission a year after the Civil Rights Act and Title VI were passed in Congress. Her efforts eventually helped prevent a strike, transformed airline policies, and opened employment opportunities for both women and men across the country.

THE GOLDEN AGE OF AIR TRAVEL: A TRIP DOWN MEMORY RUNWAY

Travel back to an era when in-flight meals were served on china in first class and trays in coach, stewardess uniforms ranged from chic to silly, and workplace rules defied fairness.

Join Elaine Rock for a lively slide show through the 1950s, 60s, and 70s when airline meals were a highlight of the trip, uniforms went from glamorous to downright ridiculous—think paper dresses, hot pants, and airlines using slogans like “I’m Cheryl, Fly Me.” Male stewards escaped such rules, but both men and women faced the cultural stereotypes of the era. Relive the tastes, see the fashions, and hear the inspiring story of Dusty Roads, whose courage and persistence helped challenge ageism, sexism, and outdated workplace policies—helping change workplace rights for generations to come.

AUTHOR BIO:

Elaine Rock is the author of Dusty Roads: Meet the Hidden Figure Who Really Ignited the Women’s Movement, a groundbreaking biography that reveals the untold story of a stewardess who reshaped history. A lifelong advocate for women’s rights, Elaine draws on her experience as a history teacher and technology executive to highlight stories that inspire and empower. She is passionate about uncovering courageous, often unsung women and men whose perseverance and resilience have changed lives and made them trailblazers.

Elaine and Dusty Roads were featured in the PBS American Experience documentary “Fly With Me,” a history of flight attendants, shown in February 2024 and again in March 2025 for Women’s History Month. She lives in Cloverdale, California, and enjoys traveling, swimming, and photography.

When released on Amazon, Dusty Roads quickly became a #1 Hot New Release in Biographies and Memoirs, Social Activist Biographies, and Feminist Theory. The audiobook will be available soon.

Lunch & Learn - Poetry

Poetry - By Howard Adler

Why poetry for me

I am an Ambush Poet, I stop people I meet on the trail or street, and even though I don’t know them, I ask if I might recite a poem. They almost always say all right, then what I share seems to intrigue or even delight. Sharing thrills me, and that response fulfills me. Even though since it’s Cloverdale, they might have just been polite.

“In my formative years, I was influenced by the folk songs of the late fifties and early sixties. Then most of the work I did for the next decades allowed me to use the modern innovation of headphones and radio or cassettes, so my time was full of the meter and rhyme of music and song. My writing and tape recording of my thoughts was a sort of note-to-self diary which echoed that meter and rhyme.

Anticipating the patterns of poetry and songs helps people understand and remember the message, which is why there were wandering bards before there were newspapers.”

I try to share my celebration of life and what I hold dear, and use poetry when I do. I’m hoping that when you hear it, it might ring true.

Wordsworth

As a poet I have to ask if are words of any worth. As a poet I answer that they are not. Not until they evoke a thought. Then word and thought can do no good until heard and understood. But until I can share, it’s as none of that was ever there. So I’m always eager to recite, hoping to intrigue, amuse or delight. And true too, even more because, until I do, I’ll be the poet that never was.
